BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Walter Allan
New York 1941-
As has often happened in his life a special person has been the catalyst in directing Walter's art career. When he was five a favorite uncle who was an accomplished artist, handed Walter an artist's brush for the first time. It was the beginning of many hours of one on one tutoring by this special uncle. Through his mentoring oil painting became Walter's first medium in an art career which has spanned more than five decades.
As a business man, Walter started his career in the art field doing graphic and commercial designing for his own sign company in New York. His art remained a continuous avocation and has become a successful venture for him. Moved by the need to expand his horizons in other business ventures, Walter moved to Texas in 1974 and fell in love with the hill country, specifically Lake Travis.
Influenced by his son Paul, Walter added stone sculpting to his repertoire of skills which has resulted in many commissioned pieces for individual collectors in the Austin, Lake Travis area. One of his pieces adorns the fountain at Capital One Bank on MoPac near Far West Blvd.
Walter is a member of the Lake Travis Arts League and TexArt Foundation.
